Strong Through Every Mile empowers survivors of domestic violence through the sport of running.
Our program, one of trauma-informed care, meets survivors where they're at and supports them through a 10-week Couch-to-5K training that ends with their first 5K race.
Strong Through Every Mile graduates range from survivors in their 20s to survivors in their 70s. They are women (and sometimes men) of every size, shape and fitness level. Our trained volunteers run with them each step of the way in training and on race day.
Our runners finish their training feeling strong and powerful and make the transition from surviving to thriving. Many of our participants continue running after that first 5K, and we continue to support them in the sport.
Strong Through Every Mile partners with providers of domestic violence services to provide this running program to their clients, as well as running shoes and needed workout clothes. We are currently working with organizations in three New York counties: Albany (Equinox), Schenectady (YWCA of Northeastern NY) and Rensselaer (Unity House).
Currently, STEM is generously funded by the Albany County Bar Association's foundation and the generous individual support of individuals and businesses.
